Looking back on my preseason prediction for the Bucs, I was spot on. You can check it out for yourself here… Here is an excerpt..
Allow me to be the first one to say the most lunatic prediction regarding the Bucs heard this year. And no, I am not saying just for attention. I truely believe in my prediction………………………..and can back it up with an explanation. I believe the Bucs will come out of the tunnel very hot so to speak. Tampa Bay will fly to 3-0 to start the season off, maybe even 4-0. But youth is youth, and that said youth will probably cause a mid-season swing of games to go either way, more than likely go against Tampa Bay than for. Then, in the end, the Bucs have good coaching and good young players, who will regroup and provide an excellent glimpse into the future of this team and 2011. The main variable I feel is that midseason. Are these young players mature enough in their own way to handle adversity when it is thrown to them? Because if they can, and if they can manage to go .500 during the midseason where I predict they will collapse, this could be yet another worst to first NFC South season, and could propel this team into playoff contention later on in the year.
Turns out I was completely right about wondering if they could go 500 in that midseason and handle adversity. I just didn’t know adversity would be a trip to the IR each week! I also called on the early winning streak. They went 3-1. On my detailed game by game predictions, I was pretty close there too, a little under though as I picked them to go 8-8.
0-0 9/12 CLEVELAND- WIN 1-0 9/19 @ Carolina- Loss 1-1 9/26 PITTSBURGH WIN 2-1 10/10 @ Cincinnati WIN 3-1 10/17 NEW ORLEANS Loss 3-2 10/24 ST.LOUIS RAMS WIN 4-2 10/31 @ Arizona Loss 4-3 11/7 @ Atlanta Loss 4-4 11/14 CAROLINA LOSS 4-5 11/21 @ San Francisco Win 5-5 11/28 @ Baltimore Loss 5-6 12/5 ATLANTA Loss 5-7 12/12 @Washington Win 6-7 12/19 DETROIT Win 7-7 12/26 Seattle Win 8-7 1/2 @ New Orleans Loss
The two game difference is in Carolina, where I thought the Panthers would be tough. Boy was I wrong there! Then I had a win over Pittsburgh and loss to Arizona cancel each other out. In the end, I called for a win over Detroit and loss to New Orleans that also canceled out. On an NFL scale, its hard to pick the entire league. If you go to the prediction page I posted on August 25th,you can see, I had quite a bit wrong, but I did correctly predict the slight fall from grace of the Colts. I had more wrong than right though, picking Miami to have a good year, Cincinnati to be respectable, and gave Tennessee WAY too much credit. I did correctly pick the Eagles as NFC East champs, but thats about all I got right! SO I shall prepare some crow appetizers, not a main feast because I got the Bucs pretty much right on.
