Bud Adams wants Peyton Manning, and other updates to Total Titans’ free agency tracker

Thanks to those of you who have been following our free agency tracker here on Total Titans.  I’ve had several updates to it in the last two days and am now giving some additional detail to those updates.  There are two new additions as well.

Jim Wyatt reports Titans owner Bud Adams wants to sign Peyton Manning.  Hopefully, Mike Reinfeldt, Mike Munchak and Ruston Webster can persuade him that Mario Williams will be a better option.  Mario should give more bang for the buck and is a better long-term investment as well.  I have added Peyton’s name to our free agency tracker but I’m not thrilled about it.

More on some of the other free agents to be, after the jump.

DE Dwight Freeney – Adam Schefter reported the Colts are listening to trade offers for Freeney.  That’s not unexpected, as we’ve known for months that Freeney’s $14M base salary and $19M cap number are problematic for the Colts.  I wrote last month about him here and Tom wrote about him last week here.  Now that the Colts are welcoming trade talks, and will likely have to release him if they don’t trade him, I’ve also added Freeney to our free agency tracker.

C Scott Wells – Tyler Dunne of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports the Packers and Wells “still have not found common ground.”  In related news, the Houston Texans website wrote that the Packers have expressed interest in Texans C Chris Myers.  I wonder if that is a contingency plan or do the Packers prefer Myers to Wells?

S Reggie Nelson – The Bengals will meet with Nelson’s agent on Monday but Bengals beat writer Joe Reedy opines it’s likely Nelson will enter free agency.

S Dwight Lowery – Jaguars beat writer Tania Ganguli tweeted that the Jags and Lowery are “not close” to a deal.

S Haruki Nakamura – Not expected to be re-signed by the Ratbirds, Nakamura says he wants the opportunity for more playing time, which, barring injury to a starter, he won’t get in Baltimore.  Ratbirds coach John Harbaugh has wished him well as he prepares to test the market.

Now that the Titans have tagged Michael Griffin and will apparently re-sign Jordan Babineaux, it seems less likely they’ll pursue Nelson or Lowery, though each would be considered an upgrade.  Nakamura could compete with Babineaux to be a starter and could also be a factor on special teams.

DL Red Bryant – Pro Football Weekly wrote that the Seahawks are prepared to give Bryant a contract “in line” with Brandon Mebane’s, which was for 5 years and $25M with $9M guaranteed.  I suspect he’ll re-sign with Seattle but I am still hoping the Titans may get Aubrayo Franklin or Brodrick Bunkley.  If the Titans don’t get a quality DT in free agency, they’ll need to get another one in the draft.

In case you’re wondering, I have not added G Steve Hutchinson, who was released by the Vikings, to our tracker.  He’s old, gone on IR two years in a row, and can no longer block as well as he used to.  He’s not on my wishlist and I hope he’s not on the Titans’ list either.

There have been no recent news updates on the following players on our tracker – DEs Mario Williams, John Abraham and Jeremy Mincey, centers Nick Hardwick and Dan Koppen, guards Carl Nicks, Ben Grubbs and Evan Mathis, DTs Brodrick Bunkley and Aubrayo Franklin.

I will continue to keep our our free agency tracker updated as necessary.
