#BWinsDraft Best Available Roundup Featuring @Mack10zie, @bleez17, @manecci, @rdotdeuce and @stephietweets

With last night’s drafting of Shaq Lawson, I (Rdotdeuce) will be boring you all weekend with my hawt taeks on the picks, so I wanted to get some of the Buffalo Wins Staff to chime in on their thoughts of the first round – as well as any players they’re looking at in round 2 for the Bills.

For me, that list starts with Myles Jack. While there are other players that could fall, I’m greedy. Having Lawson and Jack – or Lawson and Spence – would be a situation that would allow the Bills to finally develop their own pass rushers and also put the fear of Rex back into the league. Maybe. Should those players not be an option, I’m not gonna be too picky – either a tackle/end tweener to allow Marcel to flourish or good ole BPA will suit me fine.

Since the Bills have to wait a little bit it’s going to end up coming down to who is left but they should be able to get a strong player. I would love if somehow A’Shawn Robinson or Jarran Reed fell to Buffalo, but I’m sure they’ll both be gone by them. It might be a little more realistic to think Reggie Ragland might be around and if the Bills can get him I’d be more than happy, even with his enlarged aorta.

If somehow Vonn Bell can slip to Buffalo I would be totally on board with picking him. I watched him a lot at Ohio State and all he did was make plays. He could be your safety for the next decade if he’s around.

3 Guys I’m really surprised are here:

Myles Jack- There is definitely HUGE concerns about his knee….
A’Shawn Robinson- Bills should at least ask what it would take to move up
Mackenzie Alexander- Great corner, average size
5 Guys the Bills should consider if they stay put
Chris Jones- DT Miss St- raw and a bit immature, but potential
Jonathan Bullard- Versatile DT from UF who can play both DT and DE
Su’a Cravens- OLB from USC is the athletic sideline roamer they need
Austin Johnson- DT PSU- big space eater for the middle
Noah Spence- You can never have too many pass rushers.
I think at some point there will be a run on QBs, but I still think round 3 and Cardale Jones makes sense.

Stephanie Wilson (StephieTweets):

I’d like to see the Bills pick up a linebacker in Round 2. I’m high up on Kamalei Correa from Boise State right now if he happens to be available. We need a solid pass-rusher badly. From what I’ve read up on him, he is extremely versatile, athletic, and has exceptional speed. I really dig fast players. Plus, he has a pretty sweet name. 🙂

Michael Necci (@Manecci):
I’ll be honest, ever since the NFL went to this prime-time format it’s left me, and I’m sure a lot of you, wanting Round 2 to start RIGHT AWAY! And last night was no different. That first round was a lot of fun and after the two QB’s went one and two the Chargers were the first surprise of the night. I have a lot of thoughts so I’m gonna fire them away one by one, so on to it:

Laremy Tunsil: The progressives and the left thinking folk were tweeting last night, “Pffft who cares! It’s only weed! SHOCKING: COLLEGE STUDENT SMOKES WEED” and , “leave these kids alone” type nonsense. And, I get that. We, I, most of us have smoked a little grass back in the day. But, to have that video leak 10 minutes before the draft tells teams a lot of things. First of which, Tunsil’s inner circle is shady as hell, and he needs to take care of that. NFL teams aren’t babysitters and don’t want to be. There are far too many examples of inner circles of overpaid kids helping bringing them down. (see Manziel, Johnny) Secondly, this is a job interview. Teams are investing millions of dollars into these players. Look, if you were applying for a job, it doesn’t matter what job, but let’s say 15 minutes before that interview one of your peoples emails a video or picture of you hitting a bong, do you think you’ll get that interview? Much less a job? No. Tunsil’s free fall wasn’t surprising, Miami stopping was. That’s a big risk they took. Tunsil continued his tragic night by all but admitting he took payment from coaches. What a night!

The Bills: Back in January after watching Shaq Lawson have himself a night vs Oklahoma in the CFB Playoff, I said to myself, “self, wouldn’t it be great if he fell to the Bills?” Lawson is the perfect fit for what the Ryan’s want to do on defense. he can set the edge, he can drop into coverage, and he can get to the QB. Plus, isn’t it fun to have a Bills player named Shaq? I couldn’t believe the board fell how it did to Buffalo. I really thought when the Bears traded up it was Shaq who they were targeting, and when he fell to Atlanta, I said, “well, there goes Shaq” Once he cleared Atlanta, I knew that was their guy. Even if Shaq wasn’t there, the Bills could’ve had their choice of Reed, Robinson, Lee, Lynch, etc. It was all there. However, I do think if Lawson was gone, the Bills would’ve traded out of that pick. As far as tonight goes. If Jarran Reed or Vonn Bell are on the board, I think one of them should be the pick. The dream would be Noah Spence falling to 49. However, I think the pick will be and should be Su’a Cravens, the LB/S hybrid from USC. The Bills need a LB badly in this draft and I think he would be an ideal fit. What about Quarterback? I think they would pass on Connor Cook, and in Round 3 take either Kevin Hogan or Cardale Jones. LB and QB should be positions to get locked in on today. Also, if the Bills really like Jarran Reed, if he falls a bit in Round 2, they have that extra 4th to move up. Rounds 2-3 tonight are always fun

ESPN vs NFL Network: I wish these two would combine sets and work together on the draft. The dream NFL Draft desk: Rich Eisen, Mike Mayock, Louis Riddick, and Jon Gruden. I love Eisen as the host on NFL Network, and Mayock obviously is great, but having Mariucci and David Shaw (who is good) just doesn’t do it for me. Also, the biggest downside of the NFL Network’s draft coverage is their lack of player highlights. Once a player is picked on ESPN, highlights are shown, and Kiper and Gruden are breaking down the player. NFL Network is showing him walking to the stage, hugging Roger Goodell, taking pictures, etc. I want analysis and breakdowns. Not Roger Goodell playing the role of “Lotso The Bear” . (if you haven’t seen Toy Story 3, I apologize). Kiper has been covering the draft as long as I’ve been paying attention and hasn’t lost his fastball. Gruden is fantastic, and Louis Riddick is a breath of fresh air. Insightful, clear, and has knowledge for days. Chris Berman on the other hand? He is so bad I don’t even know where to begin. Twitter searching “Chris Berman” on nights like that are the best. Put Trey Wingo or Suzy Kolber behind the desk and ESPN’s coverage would be perfect.

Spoiling the Picks: Props to ESPN and NFL Network for putting the lid on spoiling the picks. It appears the Buffalo News should soon adapt that rule. I get that the NFL Draft is a made for TV show, and I get that a teams 1st pick is breaking news, but can we, for one night, not try to put everyone to the punch? Sports are entertainment, and I don’t want to be spoiled. Do TV writers who screen TV shows, tweet out spoilers? No. It’s the same thing. Now, the argument against this, “WELL STAY OFF TWITTER!” No, we won’t. We come to twitter to make jokes, and talk to our online friends about sports. We like the anticipation and the surprise value that the draft, sports, and TV shows bring. I shouldn’t have to unfollow, or mute anyone who covers the Bills. All we ask is for one night, ONE NIGHT, that you hold off the breaking news of who was selected. A trade is made? Go ahead and report that, but if you know the pick, just wait 45 seconds. All we have as Bills fans is the NFL Draft. Don’t spoil it.
