#BWinsDraft Day 2 Roundup and Day 3 Thoughts featuring @stephietweets, @mack10zie & @rdotdeuce

Another day of picks, another roundup of Buffalo Wins staff to give you #AllTheTakes.

For me, I think day 2 couldn’t have gone better. Getting Ragland, who could have been an acceptable option at 19 at 41 – even with the trade of a future 4th – was well done by Whaley. Reggie might not light up the coverage aspect, but he will hit you. Hard. And on third down he can play DE a bit while Zach and Preston Brown play nickel LB – or perhaps a S to be named later.

“The Dolph” Adolphus Washington was a solid pick, if only for this fact – by having him in the fold, you can place him at Nose to 5 technique and not worry about a drop off in pass rush. In the run game he’ll need work, but that’s why he was a 3rd rounder and not a 1st – the staff will just have to work on him with it. Worst case, he ensures on passing downs that Dareus can be a hell-raiser from any spot on the line, not just nose. Kyle Williams will also have an extension to his career with (hopefully) lessened reps.

Today, I’m hoping they grab a developmental QB (cough CARDALE cough cough) – and while I’d prefer Cardale Jones getting a Dak Prescott, Kevin Hogan or even Bo Callahan (Connor Cook) wouldn’t be a bad pick either. Matthew Fairburn of New York Upstate suggested Oregon’s Vernon Adams, which would be a great pick – if only to highlight the Bills walking away from “conventional” height/weight requirements for a QB. If the Bills do take Cook, realize I will only address him by his Draft Day counterpart. Thems the rules as they say.

Two other players I’d love to see in Buffalo by the end of the day are K’aimi Fairburn (K, UCLA) and Moritz Boehringer (WR, Schwabisch Hall, Germany). Fairburn’s leg and accuracy would boot Gay and Kid Rock off the roster and Moritz is a great developmental WR in the 6th, even if they were to pick up one in round five for instance. – Rich

My Round 2 Bills Pick:

First and foremost, I was not prepared for the move to no. 41 so that ultimately changed my thoughts on who they would pick. Talk about gamechanger. Huge shoutout to the Chicago Bears for getting this done. I absolutely love the Ragland pick as I had really wanted the Bills to pick a LB in the second round. Love the fact he’s an explosive player. I saw some of his highlights and, man, he’s a big hitter. Some have been likening him to Ray Lewis.

Darryl Talley had even alluded to him being like Biscuit in one of his tweets. People keep sayin’ the big trend of 2016 is bringin’ back the 90’s so I’m all for that. I am ecstatic with these Bills picks so far! I utterly despise draft grades, but if I had to rate this pick on any sort of rating scale: five out five stars, baby!!! RIP 4th round Bills draft pick of 2016 we traded up for, we hardly knew ya. I’m not even mad though.

We have compensatory (fourth and sixth) picks this year so there’s that. Excited to see what goes down in the 3rd round. -Stephie

@Mack10zie:

Wow, what a draft for Buffalo. According to the good old points chart, they did overpay a bit to move up in round 2. However, and I don’t think it was hyperbole when the Bills said it, they were fully prepared to take Ragland at #19 had Lawson not been there. In their eyes, they really got 2 #1s. If that means we have to part with some 4th rounds picks, I certainly can live with that. Also, getting Washington, the DT from tOSU in round 3? Are you kidding me? This so far has been the rare draft where Buffalo has probably selected the best player available in every pick, and that player just so happens to be at the position they need most. When we published the Bills needs write-up on Thursday afternoon, you will see they have addressed their top 3 needs. I think Buffalo goes best player available with their remaining picks. I think they could still use another WR, OT, developmental QB, and DB of some sort (S or CB). Regardless, this draft has been a solid A for the Bills through three rounds.

Guys I’m surprised are here:
Connor Cook: Look, we heard all the criticism but Cook is the winningest QB in MSU history, including breaking all of Cousins records, without the benefit of NFL talent around him.

Andrew Billings: DT from Baylor, this guy turned pro early after being named Big 12 co-DPOY. He’s young, not even 21 yet, and may not be a star, but he will start from day 1 and play a decade.

Guys Bills should consider:
The QBs: The Bills don’t pick until pick 41 in round 4 so there is not telling who will be there, but the QB board does seem to be setting up nicely. If they go QB in round 4 hopefully one of Cook, Jones, or Prescott falls. Hogan from Stanford is also a possibility, maybe even in Round 5.

Some WR to consider: I expect this to get addressed late, so look for guys like Malcolm Mitchell for Georgia, Listenbee from TCU, or Chris Morre from Cincinnati.

DBs: Eric Murray from Minnesota has some late round value, as does Jalen Mills from LSU or Jayron Kearse from Clemson.

OT: This is probably the drafts deepest position available. If the Bills want one, there will be a guy there. I actually think their round 4 pick is down to a QB or OT.

My ideal remaining draft for the Bills:
4: Jerald Hawkins OT LSU
5: Cardale Jones QB tOSU
6: Malcolm Michell UGA
6: trade back for an extra pick
7:Doug Middleton S, App State
7: Curt Maggit OLB Tennessee
