Bye Week Blues: Recruiting

picture 27

Welcome to Bye Week Blues, during the Lions’ off week, we’ll discuss multiple topics to keep you from going crazy without a game this week. We start with a recruiting update.

The White Out

The white out game against Michigan on the 21st will be Penn State’s biggest recruiting asset this season. Commit Lavert Hill will take an official visit, along with recruits Joejuan Williams, a 4 star CB and 3 star safety Ikenna Okeke. We will know more about other recruits visiting for the game next week, I will post an article concerning that next week.

The Decommit

3 star defensive lineman Christian Colon decommitted 2 weeks ago for an unknown reason. He did not flip to another school, and said it was more about him than Penn State. Rumor is he ran into disciplinary issues with his high school and Penn State may not have been too happy with the situation . This rumor is not confirmed. I wish Christian the best, he is a big time talent.

Who’s Next?

Penn State now has 6 spots remaining in the 2016 class with Colon’s departure. Damar Hamlin, Brendan Ferns, Tre Nixon, and Khaleke Hudson are all possible candidates to fill these spots. To me, Nixon would be the most likely to join this class, the only problem is that he does not like how far away Happy Valley is from his home in Florida. Damar Hamlin has named a top 4 of Pitt, Ohio State, Penn State and Notre Dame. He visited for the Illinois game on Halloween and according to reports, he enjoyed the visit. His crystal ball prediction has increased for Penn State since the visit (via 247). He plans to attend the Ohio State game the day of the White Out so don’t expect him to be there. Brendan Ferns reportedly has been interested in taking an official visit to Penn State for the white out, the only problem would be that he might be in state playoffs that day. Personally, I think Ferns is leaning towards West Virginia. Hudson, who is a freak of an athlete, would be a great addition to the Lions defense. He also attended the game on Halloween, he does not have any public leaders, but many believe it is between Penn State, West Virginia, and Pitt.

The Flips

As of today, no commit in Penn State’s 2016 class has flipped to another school. There’s a few that are on the brink, though. Kicker Quinn Nordin who is from Michigan has been entertaining the thought of flipping to Michigan for the past month or so. He’ll often tweet about Michigan, yet he still does talk about the Lions. Lavert Hill is another who may be a possible flip to Michigan. He also lives there and his brother is on the team. He said he is going to talk things over with his mother. Our final possibility is running back Miles Sanders. He is very firm to his commitment to Penn State, but he did visit Pitt’s game against Notre Dame this past week. Pitt fans are starting to show an obsession with the talented running back. We’ll wait and see if the pressure gets to him.

Well this is all we have for this edition of Bye Week Blues, state tuned for more recruiting updates and other stories during the bye week.
