There’s little doubt that the Badgers 2014 camp had a solid impact on the recruiting trail, as UW has now landed not one, not two—but three commitments on Sunday alone. After landing Sam Madden and Nick Howard earlier in the day, UW got its third verbal of the day from wide receiver Brandyn Lee.
With his verbal, Lee becomes the second commit at wide receiver in the class and the second California prospect for Wisconsin in the 2015 class. Lee joins 4-star tight end Kyle Penniston as Badgers from California.
The 6’1″, 175-pound unranked (for now) wide receiver from West Hills, Calif. chose the Badgers over offers from Fresno State, Nevada and Washington State. With his commitment the Badgers now have two currently unranked prospects in the 13-man class and remain at No. 25 in the 247Sports national rankings and No. 4 in the Big Ten.
Lee’s attraction to the Badgers wasn’t just on the football field either, as he told Badger247 that academics were a huge part ($) of his decision to commit to UW.
This past season Lee grabbed 70 receptions for 709 yards and seven touchdowns for California powerhouse Chaminade High School. His film shows a lot of promise for the next level, especially if he can put on another 15-20 pounds.
What jumps out most is his speed in the open field, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Lee also does a tremendous job of going to the ball and not letting it come to him. He finds the ball well and does a great job of using his hands instead of his body to catch the ball.
Additionally there are some natural moves at the line of scrimmage that will only be enhanced by wide receivers coach Chris Beatty’s coaching at the next level.
Lee’s primary recruiter was Chad Kauha’aha’a, but Beatty lended an assist in this recruitment as well. What could have also helped Lee in pulling the trigger earlier than expected is Wisconsin’s lack of scholarships available at the position in the 2015 class. With five players coming in to the program in 2014 alone, there isn’t room for more than two to three in this class at best.
According to Badger247, Lee could join Penniston in enrolling early this upcoming January, but that hasn’t been made official as of yet.
With four commitments during the 2014 camp weekend, Wisconsin has gotten off to another great start to the summer recruiting season. Now the question becomes which of the highly rated prospects UW hosted will also join the party?
