For the past few years, popular opinion of Kevin Garnett has turned a bit. He has gone from "The Big Ticket" in Minnesota — an intense, do-it-all maniac who willed every drop of success out of his Timberwolves teammates… to "The Big [expletive deleted" — a cursing, nut-punching, mental patient whose antics are an embarrassment.
Ok, that's a bit of a dramatization, but that's not TOO far off.
But no matter how much popular opinion has turned against our boy KG… he's still one of the league's most marketable players.
"Using the combined research expertise of Nielsen and E-Poll Market Research, N-Score is an in-depth look at a sports figure’s overall endorsement potential, factoring in the attributes and demographic measures that align brands with endorsers. E-Poll maintains a national online panel of 250,000 people age 13 and up. Each individual N-Score National survey is administered to 1,100 people within that panel via the Internet. The sample is representative of the general population based on gender, income, age, and education."
There's a simple reason for KG's N-Score to be so high. The type of person who has turned on KG is the type of person who watches the NBA more intensely than most. That's a person who might be turned off by some of the stuff KG has been doing. The general public, however, watches the game more casually and might miss a lot of the iffy stuff like the Channing Frye incident.
The general public sees the KG still doing Gatorade commercials… or the Wheaties… or whatever. And off the court, he's actually a very calm, normal individual. The switch flips when its time to hit the court… and not everyone in the world sees that.
KG is one of those rare players that will probably be able to endorse things for the rest of his life. It'll take something insane to pull him off that road.
