Ryan Callahan expected to miss 6 weeks of action with borken left hand…will be further evaluated tomorrow in NYless than a minute ago via web

…tough loss for the Rangers as Callahan is the heart and soul of the team. With the way the Rangers block shots you figure it was only a matter of time till someone suffered a serious injury.

…having said that, I think the Rangers will be able to weather his injury, especially with Drury and Prospal coming back. There’s enough hard working guys (Boyle, Prust, Avery) to pick up the slack. Which wouldn’t have happened in the last few years.

Andrew Gross at Ranger Rants has quotes on the Callahan injury…

Chris Drury…

“My heart just goes out to him,” said Drury. “It was a hell of a block. That’s how we have to play. But it’s hard to see a guy go down like that. Everyone knew right away. Word travels fast.”

John Tortorella…

“Losing Callahan that early and with what the injury is, that’s a huge injury,” coach Tortorella said. “I’ll say it once, that’s a huge injury but we have to get by it and find a way to win. Someone has to step up, give someone else minutes and fill that hole. We handled ourselves pretty well through some injuries this year and this is another one that we are going to have to handle.”

Tortorella said he had not yet had time to think about any personnel moves or callups with Callahan being out.
