Calls Go Against Rangers

I hate to make excuses because the Rangers didn’t deserve to win last night after an atrocious start and going 0-for-7 on the power play, but the refs didn’t make life easy for them.

First, similar to the bogus Winter Classic closing the hand on the puck penalty, last night’s call on Dan Girardi in the first period was just as egregious. At no point does he close his hand on the puck. See for yourself…

John Tortorella, who made sure everyone knew he wasn’t criticizing the refs, said this about the call…

“I saw the replay and I saw Danny just brush the puck away.”

For the Rangers thoughts and video on the refs quick whistle on Corey Crawford’s skate save in second period, click the “Read More” tab below.

Next the quick whistle by the ref with the puck just sitting in plain view under Corey Crawford’s skate after making a save on Marian Gaborik cancels a sure goal by Ryan Callahan in the second period…

After the game Callahan let it be know he didn’t think the ref should have stopped the play (via ESPN NY)…

“He said he saw the puck under his skate, so he blew it. I’m not too sure why. Obviously, it was a big play. But you don’t know what the results would’ve been if we had that goal.”

….hate to say it, but that was a tough call for the ref who wasn’t in the best position. Technically Crawford did have the puck covered, but the Rangers needed a call to go their way and they didn’t get it.
