With just over a minute left in the Dallas Cowboys-Detroit Lions game, all eyes were on quarterback, Matthew Stafford after all the early games switched over to their game. The Lions, only down by six points, needed just one touchdown to defeat the Cowboys, whom already had forced four turnovers.
Stafford threw a perfect bomb down the sideline, hitting Kris Durham for a 40-yard pass, pushing the Lions into Cowboys territory. Then a perfect throw to Calvin Johnson landed him at the one yard line. As time started to run down, Stafford decided to not spike it, but jump over and put the ball over the line – a risky move that could result in a loss.
But, the determined Stafford’s risky decision turned out to be a smart one, as he got the touchdown and tied the Cowboys. And after a David Akers extra point the Cowboys were down for the count.
Stafford finished the game with 488 yards passing, one passing touchdown, two interceptions and of course, the rushing touchdown that lifted the Lions over the Cowboys.
Calvin Johnson also had a big day, as 329 of Stafford’s 488 passing yards were to the wide out. He also had a touchdown and a fumble. Johnson fell just short of Willie Flipper Anderson’s record of 336 receving yards in a game. This historic performance now has Johnson second of all-time in receiving yards in one game and 821 yards on the season.
The Lions improve to 5-3 on the season while the Cowboys fall to 4-4.
