2013 DB prospect Cameron Burrows has given his verbal commitment to Urban Meyer, becoming the first member of Ohio State’s 2013 recruiting class.
Burrows is a truly elite corner back prospect that combines great size and tremendous athleticism.
At every bit of 6’2” 195, Burrows can really help in the run game and press guys at the line of scrimmage.
What is surprising when watching him on film is that he shows the skills to make an elite corner at that size.
Usually guys this big don’t have the hips to turn and run with receivers. That is not the case with Burrows.
On top of everything else, Burrows also ran on the 4×100 relay team at state last year, so if you can’t pick up the speed on the film you can see it in the track numbers he posts.
I got a chance to watch Burrows in the D-II state title game when he was going up against Avon, which included covering an all-state receiver.
Cam did struggle at times, earning a couple PI flags, but he was physical and always in position. They were correctable mistakes and it is easy to see why he is rated so highly this early in the process.
Burrows not only excels on the football field and on the track but also in the classroom. He currently holds an impressive 3.7 GPA.
His offer list included the likes of Alabama, LSU, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Michigan, UC, Mizzou, Colorado, Illinois, Purdue, Kentucky, Stanford, Wisconsin, and Boston College- all a full year before his signing day.
That many early offers speak for themselves.
Trotwood has seen its share of good players in the past, but none that have headed east to Columbus to play for the Buckeyes for quite some time. Burrows changes that trend, and his teammates Bam Bradley (S, 2012)and Michael McCray (LB, 2013) could join him in Columbus. Reconnecting with south-western Ohio powers like Trotwood-Madison would be great for Urban Meyer’s recruiting efforts. Landing Burrows is obviously a great first step in that direction.
Currently, I would rate Burrows as the 2nd best player in Ohio behind only Jalin Marshall, and both are clear 5-star caliber recruits. The best news of all is that Marshall may decide to join Burrows as a Buckeye when he announces his college decision on January 31st.
Starting off the 2013 class with Burrows is amazing, but Burrows and Marshall would be off the charts.
Stay tuned, and in the mean time check out these very early (sophomore) highlights of Cam.
Welcome to the Ohio State family, Cameron!
