The Brewers exercised their $10 million option on Mike Cameron, almost assuring that Tony Gwynn, Jr. will be dealt.
Also, Mike Maddux has decided to accept a position with the Texas Rangers and will not be returning as Ken Macha’s pitching coach; Dale Sveum, however, will be the new hitting coach.
My thoughts–the Cameron move is a bit risky, given Cameron’s age and tendency to strike out; the Maddux departure would have been devastating to me a couple years ago, but I (and likely many other Brewers’ fans) no longer think Maddux is the guru that we once did.
As for Sveum, I think he’ll give the job 110% and can’t do any worse than Skaalen did. Of course, only time will tell.
