Can Jamal Crawford make history…again?

Los Angeles Clippers v New York Knicks

After five successful seasons with the Los Angeles Clippers, Jamal Crawford was traded to, then waived by the Atlanta Hawks. Allowing the 17 year veteran to join forces with Karl-Anthony Towns, Jimmy Butler and Andrew Wiggins with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Two Sixth Man of the Year awards were added to Crawford’s trophy case in LA, joining the one he took home in 2010 with the Atlanta Hawks, giving him the most Sixth Man of the Year awards of all time.

But can ‘Jcrossover’ add another one to his name this season and make history…again?

Although a lower scoring output per game this past season, Crawford’s efficiency this year defied the laws that father time imposes, raising his 3PT percentage and Effective Field Goal percentage to heights that he hasn’t hit since the 2013-14 season.

While the shooting and efficiency has improved for Crawford, the staple of his game remained as effective as ever. The isolation game is where Jamal has captivated audiences and destroyed opponents ankles, doing it all remarkably efficiently:

Joining a team that ranked dead last in bench scoring last year is a match made in heaven for Crawford and the Timberwolves, and when talking to Darren Wolfson on his podcast ‘The Scoop’ he relayed his intent to become a bench scoring force again.

“I think I’ll be one of the feature guys off the bench on this team and I’m really really looking forward to it because I kind of toned myself down … because we were kind of doing it as a group.” he said.

The confidence Crawford places in himself should be echoed by a fan base who too many times watched a T-Wolves bench fail to produce in games, leading to squandered leads and angry fans.

Reigning champion Eric Gordon and new Cleveland guard Derrick Rose may start as frontrunners for the award, but don’t be surprised if our very own Crawford is a dark horse come seasons end.

Throw in a couple of All- Star appearances for Karl-Anthony Towns and Jimmy Butler, and this Wolves season looks like its about to get cranking.
