Can Matt Cassel lead the Dallas Cowboys into the playoffs?

It is difficult to believe that a Dallas Cowboys team that lost Tony Romo for all but three games, went on a seven game losing streak, and currently sits at 4-8, is still somehow in the playoff hunt, yet here they sit with just four games to go- right in the middle of a fight for the division title in the NFC East.

Truth is, the NFC East has been atrocious this season.

The NY football Giants have lost 6 games by 6 points or less, the Eagles lost two straight games in which they surrendered 45 points, then went to New England and beat the Patriots, and the Redskins haven’t won two straight games all season long.

That’s the NFC East for you, and the Cowboys are right in the thick of it.

Matt Cassel was placed in an almost unforgivable situation, going from free agent to starting QB in about a week. A whole new offense and more importantly, a whole new added pressure. In essence, the Cowboys were/are asking Cassel to take them to the playoffs, and that’s a tough thing in general to ask for.

Brandon Weeden knew the offense, Matt Cassel is still learning it. Another season in Dallas would pay off for Cassel and the Cowboys, should Tony Romo miss playing time again, but in the meantime, Cassel is doing what he can in as little time as he’s had to learn the system.

The Cowboys have a very tough road ahead of them, and it starts Sunday at Green Bay.

Can they do it? Beat Green Bay on the road, then the NY Jets, then go to Buffalo and win in late December, and sweep the Redskins?

If anybody has a say so, it will have to be No. 16 from the Cowboys, QB Matt Cassel.
