Can The Yankees Contend This Season?

The New York Yankees have won 27 World Series titles, most recently in 2009. However, for the past few years, the Yankees have been inconsistent. General Manager, Brian Cashman, has added some quality free agents over these past few years. Names like Jacoby Ellsbury and Carlos Beltran have suited up in pinstripes. In 2014, the Yankees acquired Didi Gregorious in a three team trade involving the Diamondbacks and Tigers. Cashman continued to add talent by acquiring Starlin Castro from the Cubs.

The problem with the Yankees is their need for better starting pitching. CC Sabathia isn’t good anymore. Ivan Nova is inconsistent. Masahiro Tanaka has been injured. The Yankees can’t keep on relying on him as a means for the future. They need to add another good starting pitcher to be a backup and insurance to continue to be relevant in a strong AL East.

In addition, first baseman, Mark Teixeira is often injured and the Yankees need to add another to as insurance.

The Yankees need to score. They need a team effort. The Yankees cannot continue to rely on Mark Teixeira and Alex Rodriguez.

If all the Yankees manage to stay healthy and if these aforementioned factors are seriously taken into consideration, the New York Yankees can definitely be a World Series contender this year.
