Can You Believe Six Days Until the MLB Network Launch?

Here’s another press release from the MLB Network promoting the launch of the New Year’s Day launch. If you’ve been following with me, all this week, the MLB Network has been counting down the days to the launch with a different news item. Today, we have another feature to promote.

Let the countdown continue……

6…… MLB NETWORK USES THE LATEST TECHNOLOGY TO CAPTURE THE ACTION

With the creation of brand new headquarters in Secaucus, MLB Network will use state-of-the-art technology to reformat classic film to near HD quality, store all footage digitally, and utilize the latest in HD video displays on the set.

Video displays will be prominent on the set of Studio 3, where a touch screen monitor will allow the on-air personalities to interact with graphics and footage to make a point. Between light boxes, screens, projectors, and monitors, there are over 50 displays in the studios including a Sharp 108-inch high definition screen that will prominently show the latest highlights.

With more than 300 miles of cable – the length of circling the bases at all 30 MLB parks 147 times – running throughout the studios, MLB Network will capture and transmit Major League Baseball action more thoroughly and clearly than its ever been done before.

Both the Commissioner’s Office and MLB Productions, in conjunction with MLB Network, developed new software that will allow for digital logging of games in a completely tapeless environment. This system routes data throughout the entire facility – allowing producers and editors to have simultaneous access to all files immediately. If Harold Reynolds is on-air describing Manny Ramirez as a great 0-2 hitter, within seconds the Network can locate and air Ramirez at-bats in which he faced an 0-2 count.

MLB Productions has searched the MLB footage archive and found the original film negatives to nearly 30 classic World Series films. These films have all been retransferring to high definition for the first time ever to take advantage of MLB Network’s HD transmission format. When these upgraded films debut on MLB Network, these airings will represent the highest quality these films have ever been presented in.
