Now, I don’t know how people in Canada are reacting to this (this probably isn’t even really news) but the former Duke of Makebelieveland cabinet minister Maxime Bernier took a firm stance on his blog in opposition to funding a new governmentally funded arena in Quebec City. TSN reported this blog post as actual news, which is one of the most hypocritical things the main stream media has ever done.
In the post, Bernier went on to rationally defend his position on his blog, MaximeBernier.com, a feat rarely accomplished by actual bloggers. He reasoned that the harsh economic climate and the already indebted governments in Quebec City and Ottawa should avoid a “risky financial venture” and that the debt should not be passed on to future generations. Scientists reasoned that since he doesn’t reside in his parents’ basement nor go out in public in his underwear and has a smokin’ hot babe of a wife, his thoughts actually matter.
“I was not at all impressed by the Ernst & Young study, which concluded that [building the arena] would be “profitable” – but only on the assumption that governments provide full funding for the construction as well as the repairs and renovations that will be necessary over the next 40 years. That’s a deceptive way of putting it. The conclusion should rather be that the project is simply not profitable and will constitute a financial burden for taxpayers for decades to come, even in the best scenario. That’s why not a single private player has been found to invest in it.”
BMR traveled to a local bar in Quebec city to get a response from local patrons. When asked about their thoughts on the matter, they replied “LE BOOOOOOOOO!”
