Captain’s Blog- BucDate 8.21.2011, Tampa Bay Buccaneers news Links of the day

MorrisGary Shelton of the St. Pete Times has been covering the Bucs for years, and as an internet friend of mine, I can attest to his articles always being full of great writing. Shelton talks about Raheem Morris and his fire to win.

Josh Freeman accepts the blame for New England breakdowns.
Did you expect a leader not to? Has there ever been a more undisputed leader of this football team since the Super Bowl?

Attendence was an issue with the Bucs home game vs New England, well guess what? Its a league wide issue. Ira Kaufman investigates the growing problem of shrinking attendance at NFL games since its peak in 2007.

The biggest problem is the rising technology and lowering cost of it. You can buy big flat screen High Def TVs for cheaper and cheaper, and I know I remember the first time I saw a game in HD. I thought I was at the game! It had a different experience for me. Bad news NFL, 3D HD is just around the corner. They are going to have to do something to make the game a better option than to sit home. How? Thats what the NFL is working on. Suggestions? Try lowering ticket prices. Oh sure there are 35.00 seats, but those are nose bleed seats. Face Facts, the price of a Stadium seat has out shot inflation. A top dollar season ticket was 15 dollars in 1982. Now its almost 400.00. That does NOT parallel inflation.

Not all the fans were upset with the stadium ordeal Thursday, The Bucs as part of an NFL theme for the first home preseason game, welcomed 50 random fans onto the field. Well, 40, ten fans were kids from Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Tampa.
The NFL is trying to tell the fans sorry for what we did, but to be honest, what did we really miss? Free Agency? The Hall of Fame game? Taking 50 fans on the field for each team way makes up for that.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed former first round pick John McCargo DT to the roster.

In the past, these types of signings were last page lower corner of the paper fodder, now they have some importance, because you never know when the next one of these kind of signings are going to turn into the next Donald Penn, Frank Okam, or LeGarrette Blount. You don’t get picked up in the first round for being talentless, and sometimes a new system and new place is what it takes to kick start a new career off. Lets hope so, besides with a name like CARGO…you think he can stop the rushing attack?

Joe talks about how everyone else needs to keep up Josh Freemans pace.

Joe also covers the Shaun King vs Gerald McCoy spat that went on Friday.
While King had some good points, he was out of line to say that about McCoy, who is becoming unblockable already in only his second year. I think your going to see our first double digit sacker for the Bucs in a long time. Then everyone will let McCoy do his stand up.

Editor’s Note: you may notice a slightly new format to Captain’s Blog today. For one, its Captain’s Blog, not Log! Captain’s Blog was originally the name that “Buc Wild” on the former Buc’Em.com site I used to run suggested as a name change for that site. I always like the name, and though it best for the name of a News Aggregator like this is.
You’ll also notice another change, with each story a little blurb if you will about the story. You dont come to Bucstop.com for just news, you come for the opinions, and thats what we will try to give you more of. Always feel free to leave your own!
