The Brewers signed lefty starting pitcher Chris Capuano to a one-year deal worth $3.75 million…a much smaller raise, percentage wise, than Claudio Vargas was given.
The fact that Capuano struggled mightily throughout most of last season, and wound up needing surgery, made it very likely that he’d lose any arbitration hearing. Given his past 1½ years of problems, Brewers’ GM Doug Melvin wasn’t going to commit to anything more than one year.
This leaves just 2 more players still eligible for arbitration…J.J. Hardy and Dave Bush.
