Capuano & Crew Collapse at Coors

Chris Capuano & the Brewers had a 3-0 lead over the Colorado Rockies after 5½ innings Tuesday evening…then came an avalanche. Capuano proceeded to give up four consecutive hits to start the bottom of the 6th…Carlos Villanueva comes in and gives up two more hits, all leading to a 5-run inning. Scott Linebrink takes the hill in the 7th…and only gives up a solo shot to Todd Helton. So the Brewers head into the 8th with a 6-3 deficit–difficult, but not impossible, to overcome in the two remaining innings. But only Ryan Braun gets a hit in the inning off Jorge Julio. Then…another round of snow–Brian Shouse walks Brad Hawpe, then gives up a single to Yorvit Torrealba; Chris Spurling replaces Shouse, and gives up 2 hits leading to 3 unearned runs. Sensing the game is a lost cause, Yost inserts Matt Wise, who manages to give up a walk and 2 hits before getting the last out…and the Rockies had plated 5 more. The Crew did manufacture a meaningless run in the 9th to make the final 11-4, Rockies. But before I dump too much blame on the pitchers, it is important to note that the offense went 6-for-30, .200, on the evening…in Coors…with the thin air…and with the wind blowing out. Yovani Gallardo goes tomorrow night…and he’ll win, I guarantee it…as Jeff Francis (12-5, 4.01) goes for the Rox…and Francis has the curse on him now…of being on my fantasy team…a sure-fire omen of him having a bad outing.
