Cardinals 2016 Schedule Almost Done; No Pujols

According to STLToday.com, the 2016 Cardinals schedule is almost finalized. You have 2 big questions, so let’s get those out of the way now:

1) Will Pujols be coming to St. Louis?

No.

2) Will the Cardinals have any weekend home games against the Cubs?

No.

The schedule makers won’t comment on the the 2016 slate until it’s officially released, but it’s not expected that the Cardinals play the Angels again until 2019. That would be Pujols’ 8th season with the Angels or 2 less than he played with St. Louis.

The Cardinals will have their home opener on MON APRIL 11th against the Brewers after opening the season on the road against the Pirates then the Braves. This will be the 5th season in a row that that the Cardinals have started the season on the road.

+++++

Hard to believe that the schedule makers haven’t found a way to get Pujols back to St. Louis. Usually sports leagues are eager to program games that have drama pre-baked in. But now it’s looking like it’s actually possible that El Hombre may never play another inning in Busch Stadium again.

Unless the Angels and Cardinals play in the World Series.

Judging by the reaction to the Ned Yost Tweet, though, The Nation would much prefer an I-70 showdown in October over a Pujols homecoming.

The Cubs stuff? While not ideal for fans, you have to imagine ESPN is looking at a fair number of those weekday dates for national coverage. Still, doesn’t make it easy for St. Louis fans living in Chicago wanting to come home over a weekend… cough…
