The Cardinals have made their 2015 NLDS final roster.
Headlines:
- Yadier Molina in on and will play
- Adam Wainwright has made the roster
- Pitchers Randy Choate & Steve Cishek are off
- Tommy Pham & Greg Garcia are on
- Matt Adams & Peter Kozma are off
- 11 pitchers | 14 position players
Notes:
Jon Jay got the nod over Peter Bourjos. Jay is a Matheny favorite and Bourjos is, candidly, not. Carrying Greg Garcia allows the Cardinals to use him as a backup IF player as well as worse version of Bourjos as a pinch runner.
With Randy Choate off the roster, the LOOGY will be Tyler Lyons. The Cubs straight LH batters that you can look forward to Lyons possibly facing (with H in AB versus him) are: Rizzo (4/10), Schwarber (0/1), Montero (1/3), La Stella (0/2) and Coghlan (0/2).
Matt Adams only had 7 hits in 31 ABs with 1 HR since coming off the DL on September 10th. Not a huge sample size, but the fact that he got 3 starts in the last 4 games of the ’16 regular season and went 1/11 probably sealed his fate for the NLDS.
Adam Wainwright actually being on this 25 man roster is astounding. Hopefully he gets the run he deserves on the broadcasts.
They’re rolling the dice with Molina. Expect him to get the start in GM1. But also expect the Cards to turn to Cruz quickly if Molina is playing with 1 arm and has somehow fooled the trainers/doctors. A two armed Cruz is better than Molina. I know you’d like to argue that, but it’s true.
