Cardinals Entering The Danger Zone

luongostats

Already ballin’ on borrowed time, the Cardinals went to Denver and lost as many games (2) as stars to the DL (2).

How about a little soundtrack for the rest of this post? Take it away Kenny…

The Cardinals have a day off on Thursday before starting 7 games straight against 2 of the best teams in the AL – KC and Minnesota.

Seriously.

The Twins are 33-25 and only 1 game out of the AL Central lead and 2.5 games up against Detroit. And we know how that last series went against the Tigers. (Not good.)

They’ll face these teams (2X needing a DH) without Matt Holliday who has a strained quad and Lance Lynn who has a strained forearm.

  • Adam Wainwright
  • Matt Holliday
  • Jordan Walden
  • Matt Adams
  • Lance Lynn

If I showed you that list before the season you might have guessed they’d be possible All-Stars? Maybe the top 5 team MVP vote getters?

Super unfortunately, it’s neither.

That’s an injury list. And as the summer heat sets in, it’s becoming harder to see how the Cardinals keep up the torrid pace they’ve maintained through the first 2.5 months of 2015.

In fact, pending on just how long Holliday and Lynn are sidelined, it’s becoming more and more probable that the Cubs and Pirates are much closer to getting right back in the division race as opposed to falling off the face of the Earth.

Maybe the Birds go 5-2 or 4-3 the next week and they maintain a 5+ game lead in the NL Central. But it’s not going to change the fact that the Cardinals are becoming the Cavaliers of MLB… sans the LeBron.

Mo is working his cell like a 14-year old at a Taylor Swift concert right now.

Let’s hope someone on the other line is willing to make a deal that can help this dream start stop from turning into a nightmare.
