There’s no other way to say it – this story sucks.
Christopher Sanna went to watch the Cardinals play the Brewers last Friday with his girlfriend to celebrate his mom’s 60th birthday. He left the game with about an inning left since he had to work the next day and walked to his car parked at the Old Cathedral.
This is something many of us have been fortunate to do. Go watch a Cardinals game. Leave with our friends/family/co-workers. Hopefully happy after a Cardinals win.
According to police, two men in a dark-colored sedan drove up to Sanna and his girlfriend. The driver got out with a gun and demanded their belongings. The woman gave the gunman her purse, and the couple turned to run away. That’s when the gunman fired several shots in their direction, hitting Sanna in the back.
I don’t know either of these people personally. But what I can tell from the story these were a couple of decent people that were doing what 3.5 million fans had done all year but had the misfortune of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Now?
Now Mr. Sanna might be paralyzed from the waist down. At the very least, he has a long road to recovery that will require a wheelchair and modifications to his living space and transportation.
A GoFundMe page (if widget doesn’t appear below, click on link) has been created if you care to help out:
Not everyone will be able to donate, but if you can, please do so. If not, maybe our collective well wishes and thoughts can make a difference as well.
Hopefully Mr. Sanna’s story will help to increase police activity around downtown STL and make fans feel safe that random acts of violence, while never totally eliminated, can at least be reduced in our city.
Best of luck, Chris.
