Cardinals Hire David Bell As Bench Coach & People Are Happy

funny_pony

You’ve probably guessed by now, people aren’t all that happy.

(Side: when people ask ‘what does it even mean to be a “baseball town”?, just point to this blog post where not only are we posting about a new bench coach, but also embedding Tweets mocking said hire. People in San Diego are not spending their November days hate-Tweeting secondary coaching decisions the Padres may or may not be making…)

His name? David Bell.

You know David Bell.

From 1995 to 1997, Bell played 167 games for the Cardinals. He also played 4 games in 1998. If you didn’t immediately remember him, I’m sure he’ll understand. He was a middling player for (sans ’96) some middling Cardinals teams.

He had stops with 5 other teams before hanging it up in 2006 as a Brewer.

Bernie can fill you in on why the decision was made. If you’re too lazy to click? He was in the Cardinals minor league system and was due a promotion.

Let’s get to the reaction:

A couple I found were marked ‘private’ so I removed them. But it’s not all negative, though.

To be fair, it’s a bit of stretch to call the reaction overwhelming. Most people are just talking about the hire as a news story as opposed to espousing an opinion on it.

Still.

Bench coach reaction on a Monday in November. I freaking love The Nation.
