The Cardinals have been playing around with start times for a couple of seasons. In 2016, they are planning at least 9 home games to start at 6p versus 7p or 7:15p.
Fans seem to be split on their opinion of the earlier start time while the players are generally in favor of the 6p first pitch.
This note was among the Cardinals tidbits that have made the news this week:
+++ The Cardinals are inviting 61 players to spring training, including 22 non-roster players.
Pitchers and catchers on FEB 17. Full squad on FEB 22. I’m not the best at math, but that seems like right around a month until we can talk about some real, live baseball.
+++ Mo hinted that the DH in the NL might be gaining “momentum” in MLB circles.
This is going to happen sooner than later, so those amongst us that hate this idea need to start warming up to it. I know, I know – it’s not real baseball. Not much we can do.
+++ Hummel mentioned in his STLToday.com post that the Cardinals are beefing up security next season and had an excellent quote from Mr. DeWitt about it:
“We’re not shy about mentioning we’ve got hundreds of security cameras around the ballpark both in and out,” DeWitt said. “If people want to get nuts, it’s going to be on camera.”
Better not get nuts, friends. No nuts. Got it?
+++ Seung Hwan Oh was fined for betting in a Macau casino, which is illegal for South Koreans for some reason.
Oh reportedly had 33K (USD) in winnings. Might be worth it for Lumiére Place to send over a room comp or two for Mr. Oh to use before FEB 17th, eh? Maybe toss in a buffet.
