Cardinals Set 25-Man Roster For Start Of The Season

Who else had Jeremy Hazelbaker making the Opening Day roster?

Just me, huh?

The Cardinals had an interesting last day of spring training. And it all started with a quad…

The Cardinals have already put Tejada on the DL:

The Birds will go with Jedd Gyorko as the starting shortstop with Greg Garcia working as the backup. Aledmys Diaz will stay in AAA. For now.

The Cliff Notes version of this final roster?

1) Molina, man. Dude is a stud. One tough hombre.

2) Jeremy Hazelbaker is the biggest surprise of the spring. He’s a 28 year-old outfielder (primarily RF). Here’s how he ended up on the Cardinals after being drafted by the Red Sox in 2009. This spring he had 14 hits in 46 at bats (.304) with 2 doubles, 3 home runs and 10 walks. He also played in the most games (22). Tejada’s DL stint allows him to make the team.

3) Jordan Walden was primed to get the spot that went to Matt Bowman, but since experiencing discomfort after an outing earlier this week, he’ll start the season on the DL instead.

4) Most of the other names on this list were expected to make the team. And they did.
