Cardinals Snatch Defeat From Jaws Of Victory

That win was RIPE for the taking.

Holliday led off the 8th inning with a double. With Adams and Peralta coming up, you figured this was going to be doable.

Instead, Adams weakly hit the ball to the opposite field (for the first time in a month) and Peralta (who had Holliday on 3rd base due to a wild pitch) struck out. Molina couldn’t save the day and grounded out to third.

After that sequence, it was all over but death blow. Wellington Castillo provided it in the bottom of the 10th. You know, because you always walk the guy before the guy with 2 of the 3 opponents RBIs on the night.

To the Cubs credit, they were hustlin’ on Tuesday night. When they walked off with a win, the celebration will probably be more intense than whatever the Cardinals finally do when they win the NL Central (or not).

Still, they’re bad.

Really bad.

18 games under .500 and playing in front of a crowd that was heavy with Cardinal red. Still, the Cardinals offense went back into hibernation. Again.

With the Pirates winning, the race to the division crown is officially ON.
