The Cubs came into Pittsburgh and punched the Pirates right in the mouth.
After anticipation built to a frenzy the past couple days for the NL Wild Card game, we all pretty much expected an epic pitching duel between Gerrit Cole and Jake Arrieta.
Arrieta – still in beast mode – showed up. A complete game where the Pirates barely threatened a run. Cole surrendered 4 runs over 5 innings.
The winning run was scored in the top of the 1st inning.

You feel for the Pirates, at least a little. 98 wins probably does deserve better than 1 playoff game.
But, October is a cruel mistress.
Now the series that we’ve all been waiting for our entire lives – literally – is finally coming to pass. The Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals will engage in a playoff series.
Let me repeat… Cards v Cubs… IN THE PLAYOFFS!
