The Cardinals will have at least 1 playoff game in 2014.
With the Brewers loss to the Pirates, the Cards are guaranteed to be, at worst, one of the 2 Wild Card entrants into MLB’s post-season tournament.
Those that tuned in Sunday night to see just what this playoff team is all about, well, they pretty much got a crash course in the Cardinals.
- Limp bats
- Questionable managerial decisions
- General malaise
The three biggest bugaboos for the Birds all were in flagrante delicto on ESPN’s game of the week. On ‘fan appreciation night’, we were all treated to very little beyond a great reason to switch over to Sunday Night Football.
Mike Matheny, knowing in advance that his team was one game behind Los Angeles for home-field advantage in the first round of the NLDS, decided that one Samuel J. Tuivailala was the guy he wanted to extinguish the dumpster fire Kevin Siegrist had lit on the mound in the top of the 8th.
He promptly gave up a 3 run shot.
Then again, the runs weren’t exactly easy to come by for the Cardinals. Who knows if they’d have had the juice to muster up double the night’s total output and gain a win.
Overly negative after winning a series while putting your hat in the post-season ring?
Probably.
After all, the boys of summer will make it another fall to remember. But, still, for those of us who were excited for a coronation win, we got re-introduced to the Bad Cardinals.
We’ve had enough Bad Cardinals.
