The Milwaukee Brewers paid homage to their 1982 AL Pennant winning brethren…then their 2007 version followed with the same result, sort of. I mean, after all, the ’82 version beat the Cardinals three times…but the Cards beat the Crew four times. But, for the first game of this three game series, the Cards played like…well, like the defending NL Champs. Cards took game one, 12-4. Chris Capuano solidified his case for going to the bullpen–6 ER over 4.33 IP; Manny Parra, Matt Wise, and Chris Spurling also pitched in relief…and also gave up earned runs. Parra, ironically, did the best–just 1 earned run over 2.67 IP. Parra is the most likely candidate to replace Capuano, who has gone 0-10 in his last 10 decisions. Yost has lined up Parra perfectly to make the start on Sunday against the Reds. The Crew’s offense could only muster 7 hits, 3 of which were long balls: Prince Fielder’s 37th of the year in the 1st; Geoff Jenkins’ 17th–also in the 1st; and Ryan Braun’s 23rd in the 8th. The Cubs also lost, so the Brewers lead remains at 1½ games; but the Cardinals now sit only 4½ games back.
