Cards Walk Off in the 9th…kinda sorta

The Red Sox headed to St. Louis with the series tied 1-1.  The Sox had Jake Peavy on the mound who got roughed up by the Tigers in his last outing verses Joe Kelly of the Cardinals.

Peavy started last night's game with a little deja vu of the Tigers game.  Peavy looked pretty hittable in the first inning when he gave up 2 runs by way of an RBI single to Holliday and an RBI single to Molina.  Sox 0-2.  Gulp.   Peavy settled down some, but still didn't look like the guy we needed him to be.  Peavy would only last 4 innings, but at least he kept the damage 0-2.  In the top of the 5th the Sox were finally able to get on the scoreboard.  Bogaerts hit a leadoff triple and then Carp came in to pinch hit in Peavy's spot and hit a sac grounder to bring Xander home.  Sox 1-2.

Peavy was done for the night and Felix Doubront was in the game.  Everyone thought Felix was going to be back up for Buchholz tomorrow, but it looks like they couldn't wait for that.  Dubi pitched a scoreless 5th inning and then the Sox tied the game up in the 6th when Nava hit an RBI single to score Victorino.  Sox 2-2.  Doubront pitched a scoreless 6th and then handed the ball over to Breslow in the 7th.  Breslow allowed the first two batters he faced to reach and Farrell came to get him in favor of Junichi Tazawa.  Taz didn't do much better when he allowed a 2 run RBI double to Holliday.  Sox 2-4.  However, the Sox bats would try to make up for it by scoring two runs of their own in the top of the 8th.  Nava hit an RBI sac grounder and then Bogaerts hit an RBI single to have the game once again tied.  Sox 4-4.  Brandon Workman pitched a scoreless 8th and then with one out and one on in the 9th, Farrell pulled Workman in favor of closer Koji Uehara.  Uehara gave up a double to Craig to have runners at 2nd and 3rd with only one out.  Koji got Jay to hit a ground ball right to Pedroia.  Pedey went home with the ball and Molina was out, however then Salty threw the ball to Middlebrooks, but the throw was offline and Middlebrooks couldn't handle it.  Craig tripped over Middlebrook's legs and feet on his way home, so even though Salty tagged him out, he was called safe due to interference.  That's the first time I've seen that play called in such a crucial point in a crucial game, but none the less it gave the Cards the walkoff and the win.
