Carl Landry is not at full strength. The veteran Sacramento Kings forward missed his third-straight game last night due to soreness in his right knee.
Kings coach Michael Malone told reporters Monday that Landry underwent went an MRI earlier in the day. Following practice Tuesday, the Kings were still awaiting its results, which they are expected to have sometime this afternoon.
The Kings embark on their longest road trip of the season beginning tomorrow with a visit to Landry’s hometown of Milwaukee where they’ll take on the Bucks. Landry will take part in the upcoming trip according to Malone. Whether he’s healthy or not to play has yet to be determined.
“I think until we get the results on the MRI, we don’t want him maybe risking doing further damage to his knee,” Malone said Tuesday afternoon. “Hopefully, we’ll get that. He’s gonna travel with us, as I mentioned, and then when we get the word on what it is, we’ll game-plan moving forward as to the best way to get him back.”
Malone said Landry started to feel some “general soreness” in his knee a few days ago. The Kings head coach is hopeful that the MRI results won’t reveal anything out of the ordinary for his veteran power forward.
“Being with him last year in Golden State, he had experienced some of the same pain and discomfort, playing 81 games and the playoffs last year,” Malone said. “So I think it’s just a little bit wear and tear. Hopefully, it’s not anything too serious and we can get him back.”
The 30-year-old power forward has not played since the Kings’ blowout loss to the Houston Rockets last Tuesday. However, this isn’t the first time the injury bug has bitten Landry this season. The veteran big man missed all of preseason then the Kings’ first 38 games of the regular season after tearing his left hip flexor muscle during training camp in October.
In 18 games played, Landry has averaged 4.2 points on 51.7 percent shooting and 3.2 rebounds this season. He rejoined the Kings last offseason as a free agent, signing a four-year deal worth approximately $26 million.
