One of the Sacramento Kings’ prized offseason pickups will miss the start of the regular season and beyond.
An MRI has revealed that veteran forward Carl Landry has a tear in his left hip flexor muscle, which is expected to sideline him for the next three to four months. The team announced that the 30-year-old big man will undergo surgery tomorrow morning with Dr. William Meyers of the Vincera Institute in Philadelphia.
Landry likely suffered the injury during the team’s stint in Santa Barbara. According to the Kings, Landry sustained the tear during a “recent training camp practice”. Prior to announcing surgery, Landry had sat out the the team’s first two preseason games against the Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Lakers.
After playing with Golden State last season, Landry signed an approximately four-year, $27-million contract with the Kings in July. The 2013-14 campaign marks Landry’s second stint with the Kings. The veteran forward spent parts of the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons in Sacramento after arriving in a trade from Houston.
