There’s some bad news out of Storrs, CT for UConn Huskies women’s basketball fans as junior guard Caroline Doty will miss the 2010-11 season with a torn ACL in her left knee. It is the same knee that she tore the ACL in her freshman year.
Here’s the release from the UConn Athletic Communications Department:
STORRS, Conn. – University of Connecticut junior women’s basketball guard Caroline Doty (Doylestown, Pa.) will miss the entire 2010-11 season as the result of a torn ACL injury in her left knee she suffered in late July.
Doty will undergo surgery to repair the injury in the coming weeks and will begin the rehabilitation process.
“We are all obviously disappointed for Caroline, but we know that she will work very hard to be ready for next season,” said UConn head coach Geno Auriemma.
Doty’s freshman season of 2008-09 was also cut short with a torn ACL in the same left knee 17 games into the season. Doty will have two years of eligibility remaining when she returns to action.
Doty averaged 8.6 points per game in her freshman year and started all of the 17 games she played in. This past season, Doty started 38 of 39 games and averaged 6.8 points per game as the Huskies went undefeated and won the national championship.
She did not play her senior season in high school because of a torn ACL while playing soccer.
