Update, 2:12 p.m.:
Elliotte Friedman at HNIC reports that LA GM Lombardi now telling inquiring GMs that Dustin Brown is not available.
…trade deadline officially out of control. Was shocked to hear Brown was available in the first place.
Update, 1:30 p.m.:
Larry Brooks at the New York Post reports Kings looking for NHL ready defenseman for Brown.
…assuming this means Kings are looking for McD or Del Zotto not Erixon. Which makes this DOA for me.
Update, 9:22 a.m.:
Dreger at TSN says it’ll take a quality young defenseman and solid secondary scorer to get Brown from the Kings.
…Dubinsky and Erixon for Brown. Done.
Original Post:
Last night the Kings obtained Jeff Carter from the Columbus Blue Jackets for Jack Johnson starting a domino effect that makes the Rangers closer to obtaining Rick Nash and/or in the running for Los Angeles captain Dustin Brown.
…yes!!!! Now Sather can’t get Carter. Wait, damn now they’re even closer to getting Nash.
Darren Dreger at TSN says that with the Carter deal done the Rangers can’t wait till Monday.
…with the Kings obtaining Carter it pretty much leaves the Sharks and Rangers in the running for Nash. With the asking price so high and the Rangers not willing part with any of their young talent it looks like Nash is either west coast bound or staying put. However…
Craig Custance at ESPN Insider reports that with Columbus adding Johnson they may come off their believed demands for Michael Del Zotto or Ryan McDonagh.
…Columbus also acquired a goaltender, albiet an unproven one, so maybe the Rangers can steal Nash from them. Still doesn’t cure the cap hit problems that Nash will pose, but a Stanley Cup would make a lot of fans, including myself, forget all about it.

With Los Angeles obtaining Carter and his $5.272 million salary per year till 2022, Bob McKenzie of TSN reports that King’s captain Dustin Brown is now available and Dreger says the Rangers are interested.
The 27-year-old Brown has 15g, 17a on the season and is under contract until 2014 at $3.175 million per year.
…with the Kings in obvious buy mode after obtaining Carter, I’m shocked to hear they’re shopping their captain.
…regarding the Rangers interest, as a tough, two-way center he’d fit perfectly into Torts’ system and I’d love the Rangers to get him. Assuming the ever available Dubinsky and at least a pick would have to go the other way.
…plus Brown’s from New York (Ithaca). And as far as I’m concerned you can never have enough Americans on your team.
