Casey Fien Found His Way Back to the Majors…Eventually

Tigers RP Casey Fien has had a rough time this year, to say the least. For starters, he was acquired by three different teams in less than a month during Spring Training after being designated for assignment.

Here’s a timeline of how his Spring went:

  • February 19: Beginning of Spring Training
  • February 23: DFA after Johnny Damon signs
  • March 1: Claimed by Boston Red Sox
  • March 4: Claimed by Toronto Blue Jays
  • March 14: Sent to the minors
  • March 18: Released by the Blue Jays
  • March 20: Signed by Tigers

Needless to say, Fien wasn’t surprised to find another bump in the road when he got the call up to the majors late Monday night. He found his way to Minneapolis (after all the travelling he’s done, you figure he knows how to use a map), but then had some problems getting to Target Field.

“Everything was fine until I got here (to Minneapolis),” said Fien, who was brought up to replace the injured Joel Zumaya. “I got into a cab at the airport and the driver didn’t know who the Twins were or where the stadium was.”

The cabbie definitely had his priorities straight though: he tried to drop Fien off at the Justin Bieber concert at the Target Center. Simple mistake right? The two venues aren’t THAT far apart.

Thankfully, all Casey had to do was run around the block while being mobbed by 12-year old girls to get his shiny new major league contract. Congratulations Casey, you definitely earned it.
