CBJ Win Back to Back titles for a second time

Redick DHO Game 5 - 2

Tuesday, the Blue Jackets faced off against the host Detroit Red Wings going for their fourth title at the Traverse City Prospect Tournament.

The Jackets would again score early when Nick Moutrey would drive to the net making it 1-0 Jackets 1:16 in. The Jackets survived 28 seconds of five on three early in the first before Josh Anderson would go top corner off a pretty passing sequence making it 2-0 before the Wings would “score” (might of been an own goal folks).

Midway through the second, the Jackets big line would set off on a two on one with Kerby Rychel finding Oliver Bjorkstrand making it 3-1. Five minutes later the Jackets – tops in the tournament power play -would strike when Paul Bittner scored his second of the tournament. Late in the second, Flint Firebirds (R.I.P. Plymouth Whalers) dman Ville Saarijarvi fired a blast from the point that would trickle past Joonas Korpisalo.

Early in the third Kerby Rychel would take a pass from Dante Salituro and go top corner to finish the scoring.

After the buzzer is when all hell would break loose when Kerby Rychel and Sam Ruopp would take part in a brawl that included pain in the butt throughout the night Tyler Bertuzzi (shocker with that last name).

I felt bad for the Jackets’ fourth line as the trio’s minutes were very small tonight and it didn’t seem that they were getting a regular shift, it only seemed they were rotated in from time to time.

Joonas Korpisalo made 26 saves in the victory for his third of the tournament. Oliver Bjorkstrand and Kerby Rychel served as TJ Tynan’s alternates tonight.

A quick funny moment early in the game – Olivier LeBlanc got a penalty for a collision with a Red Wings player…well later in the game that Red Wings player would try getting at LeBlanc but 6’4″ Josh Anderson would grab the Wing by the neck of his jersey to keep him away from LeBlanc.
