CBS Upfronts Review

I’ll say one thing about CBS. It’s the #1 network in overall viewers. It’s right there in the race for viewers in the coveted 18-49 demographic. The so-called Tiffany Network doesn’t have to take risks and it appears in its fall schedule, it’s playing it safe. Unlike ABC which has 11 new shows, CBS’ new slate features only five new shows. Only NBC has fewer.

Virginia Heffernan of the New York Times has a post on one new show, “Cane” which stars Jimmy Smits.

She later writes about CBS’ new vampire show, Moonlight.

And she has a wrap up of the night.

Michael Ausiello has his take on the CBS Upfronts. My favorite line:

4:35: New Monday sitcom Big Bang Theory is being billed by CBS as the season’s “smartest new comedy.” If you’re an idiot. Seriously, this show looks heinous.

Nice, Mike.

One of CBS’ most talked about show is Kid Nation which is similar to Lord of the Flies. The premise is 40 kids, aged 8-15 surviving in an “abandoned” town for 40 days and the kids get to govern the town as they see fit. No one leaves unless someone wants to go home. It goes in Jericho’s old timeslot on Wednesday at 8 p.m. I won’t watch.

UPDATE – I just saw a preview of Kid Nation on the CBS.com site and I hate to say it, but it actually looks good and has the potential to provide some tender moments. I may watch it.

More later as warranted.
