CC Sabathia is making himself a serious contender for the NL Cy Young award despite the fact that he will only have a half season of work. Sabathia improved to 6-0 as a Brewer by beating the Washington Nationals on Friday night, 5-0. CC went the distance for the fourth time since the Brewers acquired him in early July. Sabathia struck out nine batters on the night, the fourth time he has done that for the Brewers as well.
JJ Hardy had two hits on the night, including his 16th home run of the season. Mike Cameron hit his 18th homer as well. The offense looked good in winning their third straight game and five of seven. The defense struggled with two errors but when you’re playing the Nationals, you can get away with a few mistakes.
The second half of the pocket aces, Ben Sheets, will take the mound for the Crew on Saturday night. The Cubs beat the Cardinals so the Brewers are still five games back in the division race but are now two games up on the Cards in the Wild Card race.
