After a tough road trip that saw them win only two games, the Celtics returned home and dished out a thumping to the Bulls 100-80. Known for their defense, Boston struggled against the Nuggets and gave up a whopping 119 points. It seems they were on a mission Sunday afternoon to prove how good they can be.
When the lights are on the Celtics always show up. In nationally televised games the Celtics seem to play better, which bodes well for the playoffs. They held the Bulls best player, Jimmy Butler, to only five points. No one on Chicago even broke 15. In the first quarter, Chicago as a TEAM only scored 9 points. If that isn’t shut down defense, I don’t know what is. Boston as usual shared the wealth, but not always with fellow Celtics.
The Celtics were lucky to have their stellar defense. They finished with 21 turnovers, but the dominance on the other end of the floor made up for it. Boston had six players in double figures, with Isaiah Thomas leading the way with 22. Jaylen Brown had another solid performance knocking down a few triples and somehow making this shot.
The Celtics need to play this kind of basketball for the rest of the season in order to be a threat. After their less than stellar road trip, they fell out of the number two spot in the East. The C’s have no more trips out West and have a wealth of home games on the horizon. If they play with the same intensity as they did Sunday, they will be a force to be reckoned with.
