This just in: the Celtics are still trying to move Brandon Bass. In a new story about the diminishing value of the true power forward, Grantland’s Zach Lowe offers a few nuggets about the Celtics lack of return in any deal for Bass:
The league might be fetishisizing the 3-point shot, especially among big men, at the expense of other skills. The Celtics have tried like hell, but they can’t get anything of value on the trade market for Brandon Bass and his $6.9 million expiring contract.

Bass will take a pay cut, and probably a severe one, when he hits free agency next summer. The market for David Lee in two years will be fascinating. Amir Johnson will earn $7 million this season in the last year of his contract, and there’s a very good chance Toronto or some other team will get a steal on Johnson’s next deal.
Danny Ainge is probably holding out hope that he can move Bass at the deadline to a contending team with a pressing need.
It looks like the Celtics will be in tanking rebuilding mode for another season. Don’t we think it’s best for Ainge to strip the cupboard bare of veterans like Bass and Jeff Green so they can 1) maximize playing time for the youngsters and 2) maximize their position in the draft lottery?
Never mind. I don’t want to rehash the merits of tanking discussion again.
