I couldn’t be more disappointed. Not only were the Celtics unable to move up in the draft (Jahlil Okafor went 3rd to Philly, Justise Winslow went 10th to Miami), but they drafted a defensive point guard.
Terry Rozier is 6-2, 190 sophmore out of Louisville. He can defend like hell, rebounds well, but struggles with the 3 point shot. Remind you of anyone else on this team?
The C’s passed on guys like Bobby Portis, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, Sam Dekker and Montrezl Harrell. There were many reports that Boston was trying to move up to Charlotte’s spot at #9 but a deal could not be made. I’d love to know Michael Jordan’s asking price for the pick because Justise Winslow is a helluva player.
Rozier was 23rd on Chad Ford’s big board:
Rozier has been terrific in workouts, but he’s started to get traction in the mid-to-late first round. He’s been on a roller coaster of a ride, rising into the late lottery after dominating in summer camps and then sliding after an up-and-down sophomore year at Louisville. Still teams see a lot of upside there. He could go as high as the Rockets at No. 18, then has the Mavs at No. 21, the Cavs at No. 24, the Lakers at No. 27 and the Celtics at No. 28 that will look at him.
Here’s reaction from others on the Red’s Army team:
Geoff: Rozier is a bit of a reach, imo. The backcourt will be really crowded. Smart, Thomas, Bradley, Turner, James Young and now Rozier. I would think Danny will move one of them
John: There’s no way this pick makes sense without a trade somehow involved. Teams must be asking for our guards, so he’s adding to the depth to accommodate the loss of one.
Jamey: Seriously? Please???
Mike D.: With Smart and IT, no one foresaw the drafting of a 6’2″ point guard. Does this set up a trade? When will the other shoe drop?
This clip sums up my reaction best:
