Celtics Win Close One in Detroit

The Celtics squeaked out a win last night against the Pistons in Detroit with a final score of 104-98. This is the first win Boston has accrued since the All-Star break.

Rip Hamilton was in the building Sunday night as his jersey was being retired, but he wasn’t the one making the big shots anymore. That title went to rookie Jaylen Brown. The Celtics were down by one point within the final minute of the game when Brown got the call. Instead of the usual offense of “give it to Isaiah and let him work”, the C’s trusted others to make the play. With Horford dishing the ball to the corner, the third overall pick in last year’s draft sunk the three to give Boston the lead.

The rookie has earned the trust of the Celtics coaching staff. He has proven to be a solid defender and a clutch scorer. Brown started for the second game in a row and continues to put in valuable minutes.

Isaiah Thomas once again led the team with 33 points and shot above 40% from three. There doesn’t seem to be any signs of slowing down for the two time All-Star. A player that has been struggling recently is Al Horford. He hasn’t scored in double figures in the past two games and seems to be struggling on both ends of the floor. Hopefully the big man can bounce back as the playoff race draws nearer.

The Celtics now have three games separating them from first place and third place. If they can continue to put together quality wins they should be in a solid place for the playoffs. A tough schedule looms this week, with games against the Hawks and Cavaliers on Wednesday.
