Chalon coach: Spurs didn’t want to part with Denmon

A little more than a week ago, San Antonio Spurs 2012 second round draft pick Marcus Denmon signed a new contract with French team Elan Chalon. It wasn’t too much of a surprise seeing as how the Chalon coach: Spurs didn't want to part with
DenmonSpurs are already stacked with guards this coming season, and it looked like Denmon was Austin bound to play in the D-League with the Toros.

Now according to Chalon head coach Gregor Beugnot via basketactu.com, the Spurs had every intention of keeping Denmon as part of their program.

The Spurs did not want to part with him, they wanted to keep him.

Obviously if you’ve seen Denmon’s college footage or watched him in the 2012 Summer League, his game translates to a young Gary Neal. Neal will be getting up there in age in a few years, so having Denmon as the shooter off the bench may have been an option in the future. Now though, Denmon is guaranteed good minutes with Chalon where he’ll be playing and learning the European style of play.

Coach Beugnot doesn’t question signing Denmon, as he knows the Spurs usually draft some of the best talent out there.

Now, everyone knows, when the Spurs draft, even in the second round, it is usually a player they want to one day or another in their group. Therefore, it is usually a complete player and I think there they have not either misses in their draft picks.
