Penn State basketball coach Pat Chambers has removed sophomore guard Tre Bowman from the roster until at least the spring 2012 semester, according to David Jones of The Patriot-News. Via a source that Jones has had contact with, Bowman is not academically ineligible but has recently had less than desirable grades.
Bowman, along with former basketball player Taran Buie and current football players Curtis Drake and Derrick Thomas, was cited for disorderly conduct following a fight that broke out at Cedarbrook Apartments this past State Patty’s Day. Drake and Thomas, needless to say, have been in Joe Paterno’s doghouse since the incident, and Buie was granted a release from his scholarship in April after being suspended by the team in December.
While seeing action in 16 games this past season, Bowman averaged 0.8 points and had 1 assist.
The move by Chambers comes a day after he nabbed his first commitment as head coach, when 6’3’’ forward Akosa Maduegbunam announced his intentions to play for the Nittany Lions.
