Changes at Monkey With a Halo

LOLRivers

As you might have noticed, I’ve been absent from MWAH the last week. That absence is going to continue indefinitely.

I always knew the day would come where I would have to write this post. I never had any idea when that day would come, but I assumed it would be years from now when either I got too busy with work or family or simply decided I no longer had a desire to blog. At one point I had a plan to end my blogging career by writing a horribly offensive screed against Josh Hamilton, but someone beat me to it. So, I settled for ending my time at this site in a way that I never really believed was possible.

This is my last post ever for Monkey With a Halo because I have accepted a position to work as an Analyst in the Atlanta Braves front office. As much as I’d like to say that they hired me because of all the brilliant trade ideas and analysis I’ve posted on this site over the years, the truth is that I have a very particular set of skills, skills I have acquired over a very long carer. Skills that make me- well, they make me pretty good at data warehousing and business intelligence, skills that the Braves need.

While MWAH never was the biggest site and I was never the best writer, probably not even a good writer, the site has been a huge part of my life, a part that I’m very proud of. For the last 6+ years I’ve spent an unfathomable number of hours working on the site. I honestly can’t even remember what I used to do in my free time anymore. As excited as I am to start my new job, there is a part of me that is really going to miss MWAH.

What exactly happens with the site from here, I can’t really say right now. My intention is that it will continue on and all the other contributors, Scotty, Nate, Andrew, Drew, Jeff, Mike, M.J. and Justin will all remain, with some taking on bigger roles. This all happened pretty fast, so Bloguin, the rest of the staff and myself are still working out a transition plan, but I wouldn’t expect anything that changes the fundamental nature of this site.

Whatever happens, I’d like to thank all of you readers. Some of you have been here since the beginning, a lot of you are relatively new. I’m grateful for your patronage, your comments and your tolerance for my incredibly rare typos and grammatical errors. Hopefully I was able to entertain you and educate you on occasion. That’s all I ever wanted to do.

Actually, that’s not true. Ever since I was 10 all I ever wanted to do was work in a MLB front office and I get to do that now.

Farewell. Go Angels and Go Braves! (mostly Braves)
