I was talking to some friends yesterday about the wayward state of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Big Ben was hurt with some rib problems, and equally big and immobile Byron Leftwich was inflicted with some cracked ribs of his own, meaning the Steelers, who seem to have to dip deep into the quarterback depth chart annually, will be starting Charlie Batch at quarterback at Cleveland on Sunday.
Charlie Batch. When watching him play with the Lions in the late 90s did you thing for a second that he would still be playing 14 years later and have 2 Super Bowl rings? Granted, he did it while a back up, but I am still incredibly impressed by his longevity. Naturally, longevity is a little it easier as a back up quarterback. That thought made me think… what quarterbacks are still around that have been playing since 2000 (or sooner). Here is the comprehensive list of active, old quarterbacks:
– Charlie Batch
– Tom Brady (1 game in 2000!)
– Matt Hasselbeck
– Peyton Manning
That’s it. Congratulations Charlie Batch, you old goat. That’s some lofty company.
