WIth Bruce Gradkowski’s injury and JaMarcus Russell’s inept play, Charlie Frye will be the next in line to quarterback the Oakland Raiders. He has been named the starter for Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos. Waiting in the wings behind him is recent signee J.P. Losman.
It was not much of a surprise that Frye is getting the nod for Sunday, with Gradkowski going down with injuries to both of his MCLs. Russell had a two quarter audition to regain his starting slot after Gradkowski went down, but the grand total of 39 yards and three points the offense put up with him manning the helm was enough to show that the sideline is where he belongs.
Frye who is in his fifth year has started 20 games and has a 6-14 record with Cleveland and Seattle. He has 16 touchdowns agasinst 25 interceptions. However, numbers aside, in preseason he looked like the best option at quarterback dor the Raiders. With him being here on a one year contract, this gives him a three week audition for a renewal for next year or a chance to show other teams what he can do.
JP Loseman was signed yesterday to be an emergency quarterback. He was with the Buffalo Bills for five years.
