Charlie Strong will be replacing Mack Brown as the head football coach of the University of Texas Longhorns. Strong spent four seasons with the Louisville Cardinals and led them to bowl games in all four seasons, winning three of them. He compiled an overall record of 37-15 while recruiting and developing one of the top quarterbacks in the nation, Teddy Bridgewater. Speculation was running rampant after Bridgewater declared for the 2014 draft that Strong could leave the Louisville program for greener pastures.
Strong will bring a strong defensive mind to the University of Texas Longhorns as well as one of the most energetic recruiters in the country. It has yet to be determined who Strong will be bringing with him from Louisville or whom he will be recruiting to join his staff. However, SI.com has reported that he will sign a five-year deal worth $25 million.
Strong will also face more criticism with the Longhorns than he ever faced in Louisville. Football is a way of life in Texas and that includes the Longhorns football team which is always expected to compete for a national title. Also, Strong will have to deal with more media, more speculation and new obligations from the year old Longhorn Television Network. Can Strong remain strong under this new pressure and continue to be a successful head coach in college football? Or will he falter under the pressure of his first big-time head coaching gig? We will find out soon enough.
